On July 26, 2002, The Washington Post reported that two F-16s from
Andrews Air Force Base were scrambled in the skies over Washington after radar
detected an unknown aircraft. Military officials said they do not know what
the jets were chasing because it quickly disappeared. This is just one example
of the many unidentified aerial phenomena observed flying in U.S. airspace
over the years.
Despite numerous sightings by trained pilots, astronauts, and military personnel, the federal government has not conducted a thorough, credible, long-term scientific investigation to determine the cause or causes of these phenomena.
Only if we citizens demand such a study is there a chance that Congress and the White House will respond. So please join the national effort and sign the petition for a scientific study.
We, the undersigned, hereby request that our government initiate a comprehensive, long-term scientific study of unidentified aerial phenomena.
Given the ongoing reports, documented radar observations, and testimony of trained military officials, aviation professionals, and others both here and abroad, it is imperative that the U.S. government, in conjunction with the scientific community, conducts a full-scale, thorough, and credible examination of incidents involving these unidentified aircraft.
With the increasing volume of air traffic and the increasing number of military patrols in the skies over America, it is more important than ever that we understand these unexplained incidents and the implications, if any, for military and commercial air traffic in America.
It is also vital to determine whether these phenomena are natural or artificial, terrestrial or extraterrestrial.
